MONDAY MUSINGS SEASON 2 - EPISODE 249

I am the MASTER of my fate

19th February 2024

"Only a confused and cowardly person depends upon destiny. Brave men with self-respect do not honour the destiny." Valmiki Ramayan 2-23-16

I'm the master of my fate,

the captain of my soul."    William Ernest Henle, Invictus

This quote is very powerful and it can really help you to make a change in your life. Often, we think that our life is controlled by some outside influence known as destiny, fate, etc, but this quote tells us that its quite the opposite. You can control your destiny, you can achieve what you want to achieve, no limits involved unless those you bring in to play.

How do you become ‘The Master Of Your Fate And The Captain Of Your Soul’?

1. Understand What Influences Your Actions

As human beings, our actions are constantly being influenced by two worlds: our (1) inside world (our mind and our thoughts) and our (2) outside world (external influences: television, movies, family, friends, co-workers, etc). The two are dynamic and can also, influence each other.

The way to gain control of your life is to have the inside world dominate the outside world. If you build your inside with total focus and faith on your beliefs, you take the necessary actions to succeed, therefore, what the outside world tells or does to you is secondary.

2. Acknowledge you have that power In You

Most people don't believe they have the power to control their destiny. Whether it is due to cultural influences or just plain skepticism, our human nature tends to assume despondency. We need to fight it.

The first step is to understand we have the power to be the masters of our destiny, despite, maybe, your whole past tells you otherwise. In order to produce a change, you must think differently. We must acknowledge the belief that we are the masters, believe in it, and then put it to use in a consistent way.

3. Learn Self-Mastery

To master your life, you need to, first and foremost, master yourself. The basic principle is to create congruence between what you want and actually what you do. You have to become the cause behind the results you get, not the effect and outside events the cause.

You need to control what's on your mind most of the time so you can be driven to take the necessary actions to succeed. You do this by inducing your mind into think what you need to think, and not letting outside influences determine your thoughts.

Control your mind by tapping into your subconscious with conscious acts of faith. Mind, body and spirit must become one. Know who you are, know what you want to become, know what you want.

This works if you do it consistently, because you will be creating a target and becoming more and more aware of it. Sooner or later, if you are fully committed to it, you become attracted by it, and you'll take the actions according to it, until you hit that target.

4. Define A Plan Of Action

The first sentence you need to write in your plan of action are the lines of the verse from Invictus given above:

Yes you are! As captain define your route, where do you want to go with your ship? What do you want to become? Make that decision, write it down read it daily with full faith and belief. Imagine yourself as you are already there. Point out the necessary actions you need to take to get from who you are to who you want to become. Take those actions daily and with no doubt in your mind. Results might not come right away, but don't stop cause of it. Keep taking action. Understand the results you're getting and make the necessary adjustments so you can get sharper and correct the errors. Keep getting better. If you are the master of your fate, you are responsible for everything you do and achieve. Therefore assume that responsibility with no problems. If things don't work you're responsible for it, no one to blame, the best part is that you can correct by yourself what you need to do better. If things work, there are no limits on the results you can get!

“yad bhavam tad bhavathi” is our ancient belief which means, You become what you think.

If you can become what you dreamed of, imagine the unbelievable outcomes you can achieve! There are no limits.

You can dream anything and become it, if you follow the Master Of Your Fate philosophy. It's indispensable that you believe in it day in and day on, you are the master. You have the things you want, the body you want, the mind you want, as long as you make the effort to...

GOOD NEWS COLUMN – ALWAYS LITTLE EXTRA

From enduring constant ridicule, bullying and fat-shaming throughout her childhood to emerging as a prominent voice in body positivity and setting up her own unconventional accessories brand, Diksha Singhi has come a long way.

‘Always been a fat child’

Born and raised in Guwahati, Diksha recalls, “I have always been a fat child. As a fat child, you’re told the most ridiculous things by people around you. Growing up, I was in a boarding school and heavily bullied for it. In school, I was not selected for theatre or dance performances because of my appearance. People made assumptions that I couldn’t play sports because I was fat. People started calling me a tomboy because I would wear loose clothes.”

“In fact, there was a time when I used to love swimming. But one day my swimming teacher told me that I should not wear a V-cut swimming costume because I looked ‘hideous’. And that feeling of humiliation stayed with me for so long that I started hating swimming,” she adds.

“I could see the magic it [unlearning] did to my health and mental health once I started letting go of the things that people said about me and the notions my immediate society had about body shape and appearances” she recalls.

“There were these posts I wrote on social media about my story with my body and it got a lot of traction. There were a lot of women who wrote comments on my post sharing their own stories and that’s how I started creating content as a body positivity influencer,” she recalls.

Today, Diksha has more than 1,26,000 followers on Instagram.

Growing up in a ‘business family’, Diksha always had the desire to start one herself. But the decision to establish ‘A Little Extra’ in August 2020 wasn’t just about following a family tradition.

‘A Little Extra’

“While my friends went to the mall and shopped for clothes, I also wanted something to shop for. So, I would visit the jewellery section because the items on sale there did not come with the kind of size limitations you see in apparel wear. In fact, on one of my posts, I’ve had people writing comments like ‘Went shopping for clothes but came back with a scrunchie’. Over time, I became a jewellery junkie and I decided to venture into the accessories space,” she recalls.

“Eventually, I established ‘A Little Extra’ in August 2020 with an initial investment of Rs 5,000, and here we are today,” she adds.

Most of the jewellery made at ‘A Little Extra’ has a “distinctive element” to it, according to Diksha.

“YOU CAN BECOME THE MASTER OF YOUR DESTINY” if you strongly believe that you have the power to control your destiny as demonstrated by Diksha..
